Time clock & payroll
Track hours honestly and pay people right — rates, clock in/out, schedules and payroll, all in one place.
Set hourly rates
In Staff, set each employee's pay rate (hourly or fixed).
Clock in and out
Anyone can clock in and out from My clock — one tap in, one tap out.
Build the schedule
Lay out the week in a simple grid, and copy the week to save time.
Approve time-off
Employees request time-off; owners and managers approve or decline it.
Run payroll
Payroll totals hours × rate for the period, ready to pay. It's all in the portal — nothing touches your Clover device.
How to set commission per product or category
Commissions are switched on in Employees › Payroll › Commissions (one rate for every sale). To pay a different commission on some items, open Inventory, edit the product and pick Commission: Percentage or $ per unit (for example $5 for every charger sold). To set it for a whole category, use Organize categories and edit the category — its products and subcategories inherit it. The product's own rule wins over its category, the category over its parent, and empty means the account rate. Only the owner sees this field. A rule never changes what was already sold, and if the item is refunded the employee gets a negative commission (a chargeback) with the same rule.
Pay commission only if the store covers its expenses
In Settings › Business › When commission is paid, each store chooses Always (the default) or Only if the store covers its expenses, checked every day, week or month in the store's time zone. Covering means the period's gross profit (the same as the P&L) reaches its expenses (the same ones the goal gauges use: fixed expenses spread per day, daily expenses and, if you include them, salaries). If a period closes without covering them, that period's commissions are lost — they do not carry over — and the employee still sees them as Not earned: expenses not covered. Commissions of the period still running show as Pending and are not payable yet. A refund of a lost commission is not deducted. The rule only applies from the day you switch it on, and switching back to Always does not bring back what was lost. Once a period closes its result is saved and never recalculated: adding an expense later does not change what was already paid.
