Dead stock

Find the money sleeping on your shelf

Inventory does not feel like spending, because the money left months ago and the part is still there. But a screen that has not sold in eight months is not stock — it is cash you already handed over, sitting in a drawer.

  1. See your tied-up capital

The total your shelf is holding right now, at cost. For most shops this number is bigger than they expect, and seeing it once changes how they buy.

  2. Then look at dead stock

What has not moved. These are the models you stopped seeing, the parts you bought for one job, the batch you got on offer. Each one was a good decision at the time and is money now.

  3. And at low margin

Parts that do sell, but leave almost nothing. Sometimes the fix is raising the price; sometimes it is finding another supplier; sometimes it is deciding you do not want that job.

  4. Do something with it

Discount it, publish it in your online store, or send it to a partner shop that does work on that model. Any of the three is better than keeping it.

  5. Then adjust what you buy

This report is the honest input for your restock minimums. Lower the ones that never moved, raise the ones that ran out on you.
